UPDATE | 7.0-IRONCLAD
NEW SPIGOT'S PAGE DESIGN AND MANY BUG FIXES!

7.0-IRONCLAD version has been released and there are features we want to introduce to you:
  • At the request of one of our customers, we’ve developed a very smart score system designed to be an alternative to the default, instant system that immediately blocks malicious connections.
The score system works like a rating. Firstly, BotShield checks the connection using all components and modules and then gives the score (everything is configurable in the configuration file) to the incoming connection. If the score reaches the predefined threshold (default is 50), the connection will be immediately terminated and blocked. This system gives our customers an opportunity to configure the detection rating as they want.
Fixed:
  • A really very strange bug related to the Ratelimiter component that was reported by one of our customer. It consisted in the fact that sometimes Ratelimiter component was incorrectly counting the number of connections the IP address made. This allowed the player to make more connections than the predefined threshold in the configuration. This has been absolutely fixed in 7.0-IRONCLAD version of BotShield.
  • A bug that has a very high severity. It impacted your server only in case you didn’t use the IPTables integration. When the IPTables integration module is disabled, BotShield uses its internal firewall system to terminate and block connections. The bug was that when the connection was blocked it was doing unnecessary actions with it. It caused decreased performance when a large attack arrives.
  • A bug similar to the one above, with high severity. It worked only if you used the internal BotShield’s firewall system. When the IP was blocked, BotShield continued creating objects with data required to add a player to the whitelist. It caused increased memory usage and, therefore, if a large attack arrives to your network (approximately 25k bots per second) there were a lot of entries, which increased memory usage.
Changes:
  • Startup module is disabled in the default configuration, you can enable it if you see that your server really needs additional protection.

Also, a lot of new improvements have been made by our team. In previous, versions BotShield used more RAM due to a lack of methods that now we use to clear memory from outdated entries better.

In conclusion, we want to say that this update is recommended to install for everybody because it includes critical bug fixes.
